TRAIL BUILDING/MAINTENANCE

$0.00

The Forest Service is a federal agency under the USDA that manages millions of acres of public land in the form of national forests and grasslands. The Wilderness Act of 1964 (arguably one of America’s greatest conservation achievements) prohibits the use of motorized equipment on preserved lands, therefore vegetation obstructing national park trails must be cleared using crosscut saws, as opposed to chainsaws.

Staff and volunteers established camp in a canyon plagued by root fungi which had spread to several trees along the trail and caused their premature collapse. Crosscut saws, axes, loppers, shovels, rope, and more were used to help clear trails of overgrowth and fallen trees.
